Living in a small mountain village just outside of Tokyo, I grow a crop of indigo every year and process the leaves into dye using traditional methods. I also breed silk moths, raise the silkworms and then reel/spin the silk from the cocoons. The silk is then dyed with natural dyes and finally woven on traditional Japanese looms. I run several ten-day live-in workshops a year at the old farmhouse here in Japan focusing on the Japanese use of indigo. Contact me for information.

New Atomic Dog
Geiger (just named an hour ago) arrived today here at his new temporary home. He was roaming around in an abandoned town with his girlfriend near the nuclear accident in Fukushima. He was finally trapped on July first and washed and spiffied up. The help-the radiated-pets-group has posted his photo and are looking for long term parents for him. He is three years old. Snoopy is over twenty. If Geiger lives as long as Snoopy I will be almost 70. I can't take responsibility for him for that many years. He looks like a personable fine dog and I hope he won't think I don't like him.
hope he finds a permanent home, maybe you will change your mind?? how does Snoopy feel about her new companion?
ReplyDeleteI am hoping I don't change my mind. Snoopy just completely ignored him. Sniffed his butt, hmmppgfffed and walked away. She knows she is at the top of the order and nothing will change that. I have someone coming over now to look at him. Fingers crossed for Geiger's sake.
DeletePoor Geiger; he looks endearing, but very worn, and weary. He's exposure to Fukushima environs does not bode well for his long-term health. I expect you might find it hard to part with him.
ReplyDeleteThank- you for all your interesting posts.
He was stuck in an x-ray machine for 16 months. He has some battle scars from dealing with the dog packs roaming around. A messed up ear and tail and broken teeth. He supposedly had a girlfriend and they were sleeping together in an abandoned house that had the front door opened. I thought the story would have made good copy and he could have found a home with his love. She was placed somewhere else.
DeletePoor little guy. He wakes up at 5:00 and insists on a walk. He has good manners. I am avoiding eye contact. Snoopy is a free range low maintenance dog. The door is open and she comes and goes as she pleases. I am her housekeeper so to speak. It would be hard to make a yard for Geiger and I can't bear to keep a dog tied up no matter how long the lead is.
